Housework again! This time I have been on a mission to try and find ways to clean the house without having to use all those horrible chemicals and detergents. It seems that there are links between household chemicals and autism as well as other brain disorders. I have found quite a few interesting natural products which do the job just as well. I will be adding them to this list as and when I try them out.
WINDOW CLEANING
Just use VINEGAR to clean them, it cuts through dirt and grease no bother. I mix it with some warm water and use a spunge to clean. Afterwards polish the windows with some CRUMPLED UP NEWSPAPER to get rid of the streaks. I can honestly say that the result is better than I have ever achieved with any shop bought window cleaners!
BATHROOM
Instead of using bleach or toilet duck, just sprinkle1/4 cup of bicarbonate of soda into the bowl and sprinkle some vinegar on top. Leave for 1/2 hour, scrub and flush. Seems to work fine.
For the rest of the surfaces including the sink, there are a few different options. I used an alternative to Borax which I got in Boots (just called general household cleaner) which you can either sprinkle on and wipe with a damp cloth or dissolve in warm water. I cleaned the rest of the bathroom with that and it seemed to work just as well as any other cleaner. Whether it kills all the nasty bacteria? Hard to know, but there is a school of thought which suggests we are all creating superbugs with our anti-bacterial deep cleansing. For generations people have survived without having to resort to toxins to kill these bacteries.
DRAIN
To unblock a drain, pour neat vinegar down it.
